Fieldworks favourite cinema has to be Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield. During the month of October it was one of the locations on the program for Open House Dublin and so it opened its doors to the public and allowed for architects DTA to show us how they designed a cinema.

This four-screen art-house cinema is buried deep underground at the Smithfield market and includes 600 seats and a wonderful open cafe. The architects have done a great job at combining lighting, a playful use of colour and a clever use of height to a building that strikes the perfect balance between form and function.

Lighthouse received financial assistance from The Arts Council, the Irish Film Board, and the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism as part of a massive rejuvenation plan for the historical Smithfield Market area - a project that is said to be the largest mixed-use developments ever in the inner-city. If ever your in Dublin I'd highly recommend a visit.
